On August 1st, The Pete and Jameer Nelson Foundation partnered with The Boys and Girls Club of Chester and hosted an educational trip to the Philadelphia Zoo. The foundation accompanied students on a guided tour and enjoyed all the sightseeing attractions. This exclusive opportunity brought approximately 75 students to the center of conservation. In fact, the Philadelphia Zoo became America’s first zoo in 1859. In addition, the zoo is celebrating 150 years of service, innovation and feeding the culture. The Philadelphia Zoo is home to nearly 1,300 animals, many rare and endangered. Leveraging its platform as America’s first zoo, it is working double-time to educate more than 1.2 million annual visitors about animal and environmental conservation. The zoo is simply serving as an inspiration to visitors and playing a vital part in the communities culture.
Traveling to the zoo was not only a field trip but an opportunity to connect with our youth. This trip allowed the foundation to work with Chester students and serve as a catalyst for change. It is the foundation’s visions to enhance, empower, and encourage our FUTURE. It is our mission to take a multidimensional approach to develop our youth by offering various programs. The zoo is not only an opportunity for our participants to engage and connect with our environment but provided the group of students the opportunity to observe various creatures of our planet, understand our environment and identify different ways they can change the trajectory. A day filled with singing smiles, happiness, and joy the field trip was a success.
